Steep, Sagebrush covered gullys. 930 feet elevation gain. No small children. Should be in fair physical shape. Allow yourself about 3 hours to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. |
I am putting this cache out to celebrate the New Year 2007. I consider this to be the most spectacular view in Sweetwater County. There will be no 4x4s, four wheelers, motor cycles or Mtn Bikes on this one, so leave the darn things at home. This is strictly Shanks Mare on this one. Park alongside the road to Big Firehole and try to choose the right canyon to climb. It is 7 tenth of a mile from the road as the crow flys, maybe more since he has to gain 930 feet in elevation. The views are spectacular and well worth the time. I also found a Forest Service benchmark to use as a waypoint if you come in on the north end of the butte. Probably the easiest way. The coords are N41 21.663, W109 24.795 if you want to use them. The cache is not near the edge or in a dangerous place.

Found this cache today. It was really windy, but no snow or rain. Went with my son, his handle is ZYGH. Tough climb to the top. Took the right ridge up. I can see why the benchmark is important to guide off of. Took Movie camera, great viewing all the way. Thanks for another Big Wyoming Rock cache. Took nothing, wind would only allow us to sign log and hold on.

Little T's Grandma is in town so I got H to go out with me on the motorcycle this afternoon and to climb up to this one. It was warm enough to be out on a ride, but it was wild and windy on top. Very enjoyable views on top. Quite steep near the top. A bit much for H. Wondrous vistas though and a great hike & cache other than the wind. Left a post pad and took a world ball & the Jeep TB. This was our Wyoming cache #748 and overall #3199. Happy 2007.

Nice easy hide. Fantastic view. You're right it's awesome. Nice this morning. Decided to take a hike.-6 degrees when I left the house. Alot warmer at the cache sight. Lots of elk tracks and sign but no bodies. Great placement for the cache. Was afraid it maybe buried in the snow but it's in great shape. Thanks for the cache,I'd never have seen this spot if not for it. Took pictures of the jeep but left it for the next cacher. TN/LN but tracks. TFTC bumpgas FTF P.S. Easy find once ya get there.
