This is a PLAYING CARD TRADING cache to say "Tanks" to the owners of area cache's which have given us a lot of fun. Other tanks will guide you to our cache on a multi step "orienteering" adventure with your GPS.

New coordinates shown are 12-15 feet east of the original hiding spot. Thanks Tronaminer for helping fix this cache!

Be sure to bring a playing card whose rank has not yet been traded out of the cache. No other trading is intended. To log the cache, take one of the ORIGINAL TOPICANA CASINO CARDS and replace it with the same card of another kind of deck. Going for a complete change of all 52 cards to make one odd looking, but complete deck. Cross out the card you traded on the back of the box. Be sure to remember which so you can post it to the web site.

This will ruin a deck of cards. But surely theres a deck around the house the kids have messed up anyways. We keep a deck in our geocaching pack for such caches. On the cards we take out, we write the name of the cache they came from. So eventually, we'll have a deck of souvenir cards from all over the place.

The coordinates above are for the first tank, a light blue one on the hill by the college. YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO THERE THOUGH.... read on.... In orienteering your way to the final cache hiding location, you will use your GPS receiver's options for GOTO and BEARING to MOVE AWAY from three points in succession. Before beginning, go to setup and make sure your unit is set for TRUE NORTH.

POINT #1 - You don't actually have to go to this first one. You will position yourself AWAY from it 1.42 miles with a bearing back to it of about 301* ( degrees = * ). Point #1 is the huge, light blue, nearly white water tank on the hill near the college.

POINT #2 - This is another huge water tank - light tan in color. Look outside the northeast corner of the fenced area for a piece of yellow "plumbing" with a blue top and the words Kennedy, Elmira, NY, and the number K81A. (Anoher number, 725, is written on with a black marker but isn't as permanent).

Mark the position of this spot with your GPSr for the basis of navigating to point #3.

POINT#3 - Move until you are 1.50 miles away from #2 and the bearing back to it is appx. 193*. Here you will look for another Tank. Its not light blue or light tan and quite different from the others. But you should be close and will know it by a sign in front with the number 141 mentioned several times.

Mark the position of the sign for the basis of navigating to the final hiding spot.

THE HIDING SPOT - Move away from #3 until you are appx 470 feet away and the bearing back to it is appx 182* This will require a bit of steep terrain.

While orienteering to the cache, keep in mind that we had accuracies of 20 - 30 feet. So the distances and bearings might not be exact. But they will be close enough for you to see what you are looking for each time.

I hope that you will enjoy this different way of setting up a series cache with a bit different way to use your GPSr. If you do, please set up some more caches like it. I'd love to do some!!!

The container is a flatish type of tupperware container.

Out with Daddy this AM doing some errands around town and picking up a couple of caches for me. I loved playing down below in the grass, but Daddy would not let me play around the cache area. He carried me up in a Hip Hugger. We took pictures on this nice sunny day.

After getting home to log this, I will confess that I cheated too. And forgot to take cards. So I just signed the log. The hike was good excerise though. TFTH!

Okay I'll come clean - I didn't go through the trouble to use a map and do it the hard way. Just used the coords like a normal geocache. We were up on top getting some other caches and I THOUGHT about hiking down to it. Discovered that wasn't a good idea and it would be easier to hike UP from Veterans Park. Did so, and did find the cache. (Phew! A hefty 150' hike up the side of the hill! My most strenuous hike of the day!) We had forgotten to bring a deck of cards so we stopped at the dollar store across from the mall that was going out of business and picked up several decks of cards for 66 cents each. I forgot to cross off the cards I replaced - so if the next geocacher up there could do me a favor and cross of all of the 2's, that would be great. I replaced all 4 of the 2's (2 of spades, 2 of diamonds, 2 of hearts, 2 of clubs). Still a very neat idea for a cache and many thanks to Tronaminer for replacing it. Cache still in perfect shape. I think the kids hiking up there might have been wondering what I was doing, but I didn't tell. Smile Signed the log. TFTC!

This was our first cache and found it with my Dad, Grandpa and Aunt. We did pretty good for our first one, found it fast. THanks.

This was my first geocashing experience and I took my dad, brother, niece and nephews on this new adventure. Tough hike, but very exciting for all of us. We went at dusk and found in before the sun went down all the way. The kids replaced the King, Queen and Ace of Diamonds. This was a great experience.

Hints (Back)
[The hint may give away the general location of the last spot but might be helpful when you have navigated your way to the general area of that spot. But you should be able to do it all without the hint.] From the last tank go east around the corner of a barbed wire fence and hike up that drainage. Look for a large "balancing boulder" half way up a hill. The container is hidden under the bottom rock of this balancing boulder. When at the hide, and facing back to the last tank, you will have large letters p t d t to your right, and down the hill to the left will be some large concrete foundation blocks from some long gone structure.
